Master programme Bioinformatics

The focus of the Master programme Bioinformatics is the connection of methods from information technology, biology and mathematics in order to solve current questions in biology and medicine. The aim of the Master programme Bioinformatics is to prepare students to investigate scientific questions using contemporary methods.

The University of Vienna houses internationally renowned working groups in all subsections and application areas of Bioinformatics, such as biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics, and cooperates in interuniversity research institutes with human and veterinary medicine universities in the Viennese region.

Graduates of this programme will receive a well-founded and scientific-oriented education, will have subject-relevant and modern methodological skills and will be able to:

  • begin a PhD programme
  • do research at (non-)university research facilities
  • do fundamental and applied research in medicine, biotechnology, pharmaceutical research, agricultural and environmental sciences, computer science, and mathematics
  • plan and conduct scientific projects
  • work in science communications, research administration, and science management
  • do subject-relevant teaching at post-secondary educational institutions.
