On 15 April, experts discussed the question of whether artificial intelligence can transform medicine as part of the Kaiserschild Lectures series. Prof. Dr. Claudia Plant, head of the Data Mining (DM) research group, was among the panelists.

How do algorithms affect us? [Podcast]

Prof. Dr. Monika Henzinger explains in the Audimax Podcast of the University of Vienna the basics and different types of algorithms, why the term has a bad reputation and why it is necessary to strengthen core computer science.

CT & TAA research groups at the DISC 2020 [Videos]

The talks by Klaus-Tycho Förster and Ami Paz, , members of the research groups Communication Technologies - CT and Theory and Applications of Algorithms - TAA, at the DISC 2020 (International Symposium on Distributed Computing) for review.

Prof. Gerald Quirchmayr and Dr. Thomas Schaberreiter, from the MIS research group, are working with experts from twelve countries to develop a security solution that helps local authorities, NGOs and companies to better detect and ward off attacks on IT systems.

The new Vienna Cybersecurity and Privacy Research Center (ViSP) is a joint initiative of IST Austria, the Vienna University of Technology and the University of Vienna. Its aim is to strengthen synergies and promote cutting-edge research in the fields of cybersecurity and privacy in Vienna.

The new Doctoral School of the Faculty of Computer Science (DoCS) starts this winter semester 2020/21. The Doctoral School DoCS provides a more advanced framework for the promotion of outstanding quality in research and the education of doctoral students.

We are very pleased to welcome Benjamin Roth to our faculty. The newly created professorship "Digital Text Sciences" is located at the Faculty of Computer Science and the Faculty of Philological and Cultural Studies.

On 1.5.2020, Dr. Nils Morten Kriege joined our faculty on a tenure track professor-position with his interdisciplinary Data Science project "Algorithmic Data Science for Computational Drug Discovery".
