„Lective - Creating a Quiz Tool to Support Lectures at the University of Vienna“

Currently higher education lectures often still default to the traditional frontal teaching format, even though pedagogical research suggests more interactive teaching formats to be more effective. The goal of this thesis is to create a quiz tool for the use in higher education frontal classroom lectures with the purpose of introducing a non-intrusive feedback channel. The anticipated advantages of such a tool are two-fold: it provides the lecturer with information on how well the lecture content was understood by the students in real-time and it positively impacts student attention, motivation and learning by adding gamification to the traditional lecture format. The Lective project was designed for this purpose and a prototype was developed and tested. The theoretical background, application concept, development steps, technical information and testing results are documented in this thesis.
