Laura Koesten (VDA) receives the Hedy Lamarr Award from the City of Vienna

On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, Laura Koesten received the award, which has been given since 2018 to Austrian women researchers in information technology. Our warmest congratulations!

Named after the Vienna-born Hollywood actress and scientist, the Hedy Lamarr Award highlights the role and importance of women in IT. The award recipients also serve as role models, inspiring the next generation to pursue careers in the IT sector. Each year, the City of Vienna presents the €10,000 award in collaboration with DigitalCity.Vienna and Urban Innovation Vienna.

During the award ceremony, Laura Koesten's research contributions were highlighted, recognizing her work in broadening perspectives and fostering innovation in the spirit of Digital Humanism toward a more inclusive digital future. Her commitment to supporting women in the field and serving as a role model was also emphasized, showing that entry into IT can follow unconventional paths.

Laura Koesten is a postdoc in the subunit Visualization and Data Analysis (VDA) at the Faculty of Computer Science and leads the WWTF-funded project "Talking Charts".
