MEi:CogSci Mobility
Important Facts
- The mobility semester can only be done in the winter semester, i.e., third semester. It can be extended into the subsequent summer semester (e.g., when students do their master's thesis at the partner university).
- The joint degree requires to do the mobility semester at one of the MEi:CogSci partner universities. It is not possible to do the mobility semester at the Medical University of Vienna.
- The mobility semester is funded by ERASMUS+ grants (and in special cases by CEEPUS grants).
- The mobility semester is recognised at your home university via the mobility semester Learning Contract.
- All deadlines of the host and home university need to be met in order to successfully finish the mobility semester.
Mobility Information Meeting
In the beginning of December MEi:CogSci students from all partner universities and the MEi:CogSci coordinators meet at the Comenius University in Bratislava.
At the info meeting, each partner university presents its local MEi:CogSci mobility semester implementation and highlights some of the available options for project work and Specialisation. The information provided will help students to chose preferred partner universities for their mobility semester.

Preference Ranking of Partner Universities for the Mobility Semester
- After the mobility semester info meeting you will receive an email with a link to an online form.
- You fill in some personal information (name, matriculation number, email address, home university) and rank the partner universites (first/second preference).

Informations for Outgoing Students
Application at the Home University
Information about Erasmus+ student exchange for outgoing students is provided on the website of the international office of the University of Vienna.
Application at the Host University
Corresponding information about Erasmus+ for incoming students (i.e., information regarding the university you will spend your mobility semester at) is provided by our partner universities. Important dates and deadlines, information on the academic year and semester start/end, available courses in English, whom to contact, etc., can be found here:
Start to think about your project work and potential supervisors at the end of the second semester. We recommend that you try to contact potential supervisors for project work before the mobility semester starts. Please have a look at the Project Database at the MEi:CogSci Website.
The Mobility Semester Learning Contract (LC) is the relevant legal document to recognise your modules/grades/ECTS for the MEi:CogSci curriculum at your home university. That is, grades cannot be recognised at your home university based on your transcript of the host university without the learning contract.
Be aware that the MEi:CogSci LC is a different document than the Erasmus+ Learning Agreement (LA)!
Three types of learning contracts are available for the mobility semester. The type of learning contract depends on the type of project work you are doing.
You can download the Learning Contract Forms from the Downloads section at the MEi:CogSci Website.
The deadline for your initial learning contract is 31 October.
Send your mobility semester learning contract via email to the programme coordinators of (1) your host university, and CC to (2) your home university and (3) your project supervisor(s).
You will get feedback whether the learning contract is formally approved or requires revision.
Deadline for the mobility semester learning contract is 31 March. This date has been set by the international MEi:CogSci consortium. If you miss this deadline, we cannot guarantee that you can successfully finish your mobility semester.
Please note that Erasmus+ deadlines might differ!
The University of Vienna accepts scans/digital versions of signed and stamped learning contracts if (1) they are sent by the local coordinator from their university affiliated email address to and (2) scans of all relevant transcripts for courses on the learning contract are included in the email.
Information for Incoming Students
Get informed about the course directory for your mobility semester. The courses offered in S-I-CS New Trends in Cognitive Science are mandatory.
Choose a supervisor and project for your mobility semester. You can pick one from the University of Vienna's List of Projects for Specialisation, which you'll find on the international website. You aren't required to choose a project from this list, but if yours isn't on it, you'll need the programme director's approval. Please contact meicogsci(at)univie.ac.at to request it.
If you want to take courses that are offered at the Medical University Vienna, you need to co-register separately. Please follow the instructions on Co-Registration at the Medical University of Vienna.
You can download your "Studienbuchblatt"/"Student Record Sheet" from u:space.
