Master's in Bioinformatics: Foundational Modules
The curriculum is designed so that students acquire the necessary foundational knowledge in the fields of biology, computer science, and mathematics during the first semester. Unlike other semesters, where regular courses are offered, we expect you to take a lot of initiative on your own this semester! You should fill in any gaps in your knowledge in the three subject areas through independent study. Only with this structure was it possible to make the master's programme in Bioinformatics accessible to students from as many disciplines as possible.
How is the material assessed?
Three examination dates are offered per semester for each of the three modules. You can find the dates in the course directory; by logging in for the examinations, you will gain access to the examination material and study materials on Moodle.
Once you have passed the corresponding module examination for each module, you are ready to attend the regular courses of the second semester.
If you have completed your previous studies in one of the three subject areas, you should have no trouble passing the corresponding module examination, allowing you to focus fully on the two remaining modules. But even for students changing fields, passing the module examinations should not be a problem after a semester of intensive degree programme study. It is important to stay on top of things during the semester and not wait until the last minute to study.
