Business application modelling for corporate controlling based on SAP S4/HANA

Permanent changes within the external and internal environment approach organisations as opportunities or risks. Identifying opportunities as potential future success factors in time is key to permanently scope, correct and improve operating business activities. Additionally, identifying risks in time is crucial to avoid and prevent economic and financial losses. Therefore, information is beside assets, expenses and labour another important dimension for business continuation and business success. Data is provided by several data sources within and outside the organisation. Data acquisition, data preparation and data processing to support corporate management and corporate controlling, describe key activities in integrated business planning. Technical improvements in database architecture and database design in the context of Big Data and In-Memory technology redefine the entire process in data preparation and data analysis. The new technical improvements in the context of In-Memory data processing allow real-time data analysis based on transactional data sources to improve the operational and strategic decision-making process. This master’s thesis describes the meaning and purpose of integrated business planning by considering all relevant economic and functional requirements to support corporate management and corporate controlling. Furthermore, this master’s thesis describes applications and services based on SAP HANA technology to implement integrated planning applications. A framework to model integrated planning solutions was developed based on a functional and technical requirements analysis by considering SAP specific product and service aspects. To test the practical feasibility of the framework, a high-level planning application for material planning was implemented.
