Viz4PAIS

Zusammenfassung

Mission Statement:

The Viz4PAIS project aims at bundling all efforts on the visualization of process-related information at the Workflow Systems and Technology Research Group, Faculty of Computer Science, University of Vienna. We believe that this topic is crucial to further the application and adoption of process technology in practice.

What cannot be understood, will not be applied!

In Viz4PAIS, visualization techniques are developed for

  • process models
  • process instances
  • process changes
  • process versions
  • organizational models

These techniques shall be applicable throughout the process life cycle, i.e., at

  • design time
  • run time
  • diagnosis time

Selected outcomes:

A list of selected publications within the Viz4PAIS project can be found below. The following pictures highlight our work on visualizing the differences between process models (difference graphs and instance traffic) and on visualizing organizational models in organizations.

Difference graphs and instance traffic are of particular importance to analyze the evolution of process models over time and can be applied, for example, in process mining projects and in large process model repositories. Currently, a plugin for the process mining framework ProM is developed.

Visualizing organizational information is of high importance for many reasons, for example, for answering security-related questions. Innovative suggestions form the Viz4PAIS project are the OrbitFlower and OrbitList visualizations which enable the user to easily understand situations where, for example, roles are not connected to users anymore which can cause security problems in the sequel (unauthorized access).
